Our FIRST Disney Cruise
We’re no strangers to cruising. In fact, this was our 10th cruise — so we thought we had it all figured out. But nothing, and we mean nothing, could’ve prepared us for the magic that is a Disney Cruise.
From the moment we stepped aboard the Disney Magic, it felt like a whole new world (cue the soundtrack). Whether you’re a cruising veteran like us or brand new to life at sea, here’s why our first Disney Cruise was unforgettable — and everything we wish we knew before we boarded..
Why We Booked a Short Disney Cruise First
Even with 9 cruises under our belt, we decided to keep it short and sweet for our first Disney sailing. Here’s why:
✅ Lower price point = less pressure to commit
✅ Opportunity to unlock Disney’s rebooking discount (yes please!)
✅ Scored a last-minute deal
✅ Galveston departure = cheaper flights
✅ Off-peak season gave us better rates + fewer crowds
Yes, we took the kids out of school. Totally worth it.
✅ Sail away party was a huge hit. kids said it was their FAVORITE!
We figured if Disney wasn’t our vibe (spoiler: it 100% was), we’d only be at sea for a few days. Safe to say we didn’t want to leave.
How We Prepped
Being cruise-savvy helped, but Disney has its own rhythm. Here’s what helped us nail the prep:
✅Joined the Facebook group for our sailing — trust us, it’s cruise gold.
✅If there’s a WhatsApp chat? GET IN IT. – Someone on our cruise won a $50 off spa and wasn’t able to use to it so they posted about in the the chat and I was able to get it!
✅ Packed refillable water bottles with lids (not straws)
✅ Pixie Dust extras (small gifts for other cruisers)
✅ Extra magnetic hooks to help with cabin space
✅ Over the door shoe organizer
What We Actually Needed
Must-Haves: Lanyards for your Key to the World cards (Especially for the kids)
Pins if you want to trade (so much fun!)
Multiple swimsuits
Light jackets or hoodies — those theaters are chilly!
Backpack for port days + excursions
Comfortable casual outfits
Laundry hamper/bag
Skip These: beach towels — already provided
Workout clothes — we brought them, they collected dust
Too many outfits — you’ll live in a swimsuit and dinner casuals
Overpacking accessories or shoes
Tons of games for dinner — a deck of cards was perfect
Pirate Night outfits – just something simple they supply a cute bandana.

Inside Cabin = Cozy & Perfect
We booked an inside cabin, and honestly? It was great. We slept so well (no sunlight = amazing naps), and we barely spent time in the room anyway. Disney keeps you busy in the best way.
Disney vs. Other Cruises: Our Take
We’ve sailed with a few lines before, but Disney? Totally different. It’s not just for kids — it’s for Disney lovers, relaxation seekers, and anyone who wants top-tier service with a sprinkle of fairy dust. We weren’t sure if the hype was real. It is.
Can You Disney Cruise on a Budget? YES. We went in thinking this might be a one-and-done… but Disney nailed every detail. With a little strategy (and some off-season magic), you can totally do it on a budget.
Tips We’re Taking into Cruise #11
Book a cheap hotel near the port the night before
Use travel rewards to save on flights/hotels
Label your kids’ stuff with cabin number
Mini flashlights or tea lights next to the bedside table
Pack less — trust us, it’s freeing
Bring a few thank-you notes — the staff deserve it!
This Disney Cruise may have been our 10th time sailing, but it was our most memorable yet. The shows, the ice cream (which was different each day), the service, the vibe — all exceeded our expectations. If you’ve been on other cruises and wondered if Disney is worth the hype? Book it. You won’t regret it. Want to know a little more about Disney Cruise? —>Read our Honest Review of the Disney Magic (Coming Soon) or Visit Our Travel Journal
